Parents and Guardians,
We had a wonderful first day with scholars. Unfortunately, buses are running 45-60 minutes behind schedule. This will improve daily as buses arrive at our campus following elementary routes. Thank you so much for your patience!

Permission slips are coming home to scholars today and tomorrow that have had no office referrals from October 16 through May 27 to attend a fun water day. The event will take place on May 28 during school hours. If your scholar receives an office referral after this permission slip is signed, they will not be able to attend the incentive. Permission slips are due by May 24. We are excited to celebrate great behavior with our JMS scholars!

On May 10th, 6th & 7th grade scholars competed in the 2nd Annual JMS Spelling Bee. There was a total of 37 contestants. The winners were (shown from left to right): Jordyn Barbee (2nd Place), Davier Rivera (1st Place), & Travis Stanley (3rd Place). Congratulations to all of the contestants on their hard work and dedication in preparing for the spelling bee! We are looking forward to next year’s Spelling Bee!

Some 6th grade scholars in Mrs. Hill’s & Mrs. Gates’ 6th Grade ELA classes took a trip to Petit Jean State Park. The scholars went on a hike to Cedar Falls to see the beautiful waterfall that is located there. This trip went hand-in-hand with the “Exploration” unit that scholars have been learning about in their English classes. Scholars thoroughly enjoyed exploring nature and witnessing the beauty at Petit Jean Mountain.

The Military Child breakfast at JMS went really well. Students were able to have conversations with other students that experience life in a military family.
Thank you to the Nutrition Department for making the delicious breakfast. The biscuits were a big hit.

See attached flyer for all the important information. Tryouts are Monday, April 29 at JMS.

Our scholars participated in various events at the Special Olympics including 100 meter run, standing long jump, tennis ball, and/or softball throw. We are incredibly proud of them and they represented JMS well!
Destiny O'Neal 2 gold medals
LaRoyal Frazier gold and bronze
Kalena Rougely silver and gold
Cai'Shawn Young gold and bronze
Dustin Manire bronze and fifth
Matthew Rougely gold and bronze

Some scholars in Mrs. Gates’ 7th Grade ELA class had the opportunity to visit a classic arcade in Sherwood called “The Vortex”. 7th grade scholars finished a novel study over “The Outsiders”. They have been studying that time frame and what it was like for youth growing up in the 60s. Visiting “The Vortex” was a great opportunity for them to build upon this concept because scholars learned about classic arcade games that youth used to enjoy.

Congratulations to our March Students of the Month!
