Good afternoon,
JMS phones are down. Our servicer has made an appointment to service the lines today. We will update as soon as service is restored.

Mrs. Gates’ 6th Grade ELA classes read the novel “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl to coincide with their unit of study about imagination. After the novel study was complete, scholars were given the opportunity to create a type of chocolate or a candy that Willy Wonka might be interested in replicating at his candy factory. Scholars then took their big ideas and prepared presentations about their products which would be presented in a “Shark Tank” style. The goal of this “Chocolate Tank” project was to expand on the novel study, promote creativity/teamwork, enhance public speaking, to develop research skills, and to show students how argumentative writing also coincides with real life scenarios/opportunities.
Once presentations were complete, these scholars visited Ms. Drew and Mrs. Dettling’s 3rd Grade Classes at JES to present in front of the “sharks” a.k.a the third graders. After the presentations, the third grade scholars then voted on the chocolate or candy ideas that they felt were most successful. Both the 3rd graders and the 6th graders enjoyed this collaboration between JES and JMS as it provided a chance for the 6th graders to serve as role models and for the 3rd graders to get a glimpse of middle school life and to be inspired to be creative.
