6th grade scholars have been learning how to write an effective argumentative essay. To build upon this learning, Mrs. Gates’ 6th grade students were challenged to write an argumentative rap about a topic that they feel strongly about in order to raise awareness. Then, the students had argumentative rap battles which were judged by the winners from the previous years. Scholars enjoyed this process and did an excellent job about conveying their message creatively. The Argumentative Rap Battle results are featured below. Congrats to the following groups for their awesome performances in the finale:
Grand Champions (Topic Chosen-Bullying):
Iyanah, Samiyah, Nancy, & Season
Reserve Grand Champions (Topic Chosen-Women’s Rights):
Dakotah, Emmani, Khennedi, & Lyric
3rd Place (Topic Chosen-Suicide Awareness):
Bentley, Jayvion, & Tristen (Not Pictured: AJ)
4th Place (Topic Chosen-War/Peace):
Izzy, Xavier, & Alijah (Not Pictured: Michael)

It is time for the City of Jacksonville Youth Sports sign up! They offer baseball, Co-ed tball, softball, Co-ed NFL Flag football, Co-ed soccer, Co-ed kickball, and High School Girls NFL Flag Football. Parents can register at the Jacksonville Community Center or online. If they have any questions, they can reach out to Rusty McCoy at (501) 690-1722. Some of the highlights from last season include the 12U softball team getting to go out onto the field at an Arkansas Travelers game last fall. They were out on the field for the National Anthem, they got to run the players out onto the field, and got to participate in on-field activities. They were able to work with Razorback Athletics as well and had players and families receive free tickets to a Razorback Football Game. They are continuing to work with the Arkansas Travelers and Razorback Athletics and will hopefully get to do these things again soon.

One of Mrs. Smith's ELA classes had a "Book Tasting" with our JMS Media Specialist Mrs. K. They had the chance to preview books pertaining to The Holocaust and the Resistance during WWII in order to choose the best fit book for them. They will use these books to write an essay answering the question "How does literature help us honor and remember the victims of The Holocaust?".

What do most students do when they return to school after break?
The JMS Advanced Choir performed at the Jacksonville Senior & Wellness Activity Center to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of their dear residents. It was such a wonderful celebration!
